Vision

By Kurt Thies

As we approach our 20th anniversary, I want to share the story of where we began, where we have been and where we are headed.

Every business originates by finding a need and filling it. I was a student at UCLA and got a part time job in the file room of a law firm. I feel like I had a part in the business and had an important responsibility. Attorneys were intently working on cases, accumulating stacks of records every day that needed to be filed so each client file was complete, several attorneys may work on a case, needing different parts of the client file, and it was critical that a file could be found and was available at all times.

I was trained on their manual system.  There was a way we created each new file, a way we put them on the shelf, a way to find them, and a way they were delivered when they were needed. It all worked just fine, that is, until the day that an attorney was late for court and needed his files as he rushed out the door. There was a big gap on the shelf where the files belonged and in the frantic scramble to locate the missing files, a business was born.

Technology also plays a key part in this story. In the office, each secretary had an IBM Selectric Typewriter. There was a word processing department with a WANG system and new 286. Computers were arriving that offered new levels of computing power. Technology did two things: It created magical possibilities to dramatically improve a manual process, and it continued to change and offer more possibilities; It made it possible to create a database of all of the files, labeling each with a unique bar code that allowed them to be tracked just like books in a library. Technology created a whole new world of possibilities and as people used it, they wanted it to do even more.

If this were a movie, this part of the story is where the music plays, and the pages of the calendar flip and you watch a montage of images of customers explaining their needs, evolving technology, new versions of the program. And during this time, a business continued to grow and evolve during this process.

Accutrac® was founded on basic principles and has been operated on basic principles. We exist to service a need, and the need to a solution. The solutions continue to evolve. So we must continually work with customers to understand their dynamic changing needs and combine the ever evolving possibilities that technology provides to offer a solution.

As the parade of images returns to real-time, and our story reaches present day, we have developed a history of individual customer successes that include Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, entire cities, international law firms, and businesses of all sizes. Our clients share a common need to manage their records.

Records management has become much more sophisticated over our two decades in business. It’s not just finding files anymore. The needs of today are based upon compliance, retention, and audits. Accutrac® software has evolved from a records tracking application to a critical enterprise application to provide a flexible, secure environment that combines an intuitive interface with unprecedented performance, scalability, and functionality.

We can project into the future to see Accutrac® continuing to: lead with innovation and dedicated service solving complex records and information management challenges; offering greater integration with legacy systems and applications; building upon strategic relationships to deliver complete solutions; and expanding our ever increasing client base worldwide.
